CLEVELAND, Miss. – No. 2 Delta State University (42-11) got back-to-back home runs from Emil Ellis and Brian Lane to help erase a four-run deficit in earning a 9-7 win over Florida Southern College (35-16) in the NCAA South Region Tournament on Friday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Austin Mauer hit a home run with two outs in the top of the first to give Florida Southern a 1-0 lead.
- The Statesmen answered with some two-out lightning of their. Brian Lane drew a walk and Zack Shannon launched a home run to left to give the Statesmen a 2-1 lead.
- The Mocs took advantage of two errors to plate four runs in the top of the second to take a 5-2 lead. Cody Burgess highlighted the inning with a three-run home run to center.
- Mitch Reeves singled and scored on a Jason Sierra sac-fly to help FSC to a 6-2 advantage in the top of the third.
- The Statesmen cut the FSC lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the third. Jason Popovich led off with a single and scored when Shannon reached on a fielder's choice.
- Mauer's second home run of the game in the top of the fourth pushed the FSC lead to 7-3.
- The Statesmen cut the deficit to 7-6 in the fifth. Emil Ellis scored when Juwan Burney reached on a fielder's choice and Burney and Brian Lane came home on a fielding error by the FSC third baseman.
- The Green-and-White grabbed the lead an 8-6 lead in the sixth on back-to-back home runs by Ellis and Lane.
- The Statesmen added an insurance run in the eighth. Burney drew a walk to lead off the frame and moved to second on a Russell sac-bunt before scoring on a Jason Popovich double.
ON THE MOUND
- Seth Birdsong (10-1) struck out seven batters and allowed seven runs, three earned, on nine hits to earn the win for the Statesmen.
- AJ Smith (3-3) took the loss for the Mocs, allowing two runs on two hits in one-third of inning of work.
- Osbon pitched gave up three hits in 1.1 scoreless innings to record his seventh save of the season.
NOTEABLES
- Shannon first inning home run was his 19th of the season moving him into fourth past Mike Plumlee (1992) and Mike Moore (1984) on DSU's single season home run list.
- Shannon drove in three runs today and has 87 RBIs this season and is five RBIs shy of tying Dee Haynes (92, 1999) on the single season RBIs list. The Cincinnati, Ohio native is currently tied for second with Haynes (87, 2000).
- Popovich went 3-for-6 with a run scored to lead the Statesmen 13-hit attack.
- Ellis went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored.
- Lane went 2-for-3 with a home run and. three runs scored and Russell was 2-for-3.
- Shannon went 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games and his reached base streak to 47 straight games.
- Casey drew a walk to extend his games reached base streak to 37 while Ellis extended his reached base streak to 26 straight games.
