McGill's Two Goals Help Lady Statesmen Defeat Shorter

Box Score ROME, Ga. – Two goals from freshman Jasmine McGill helped lead the Delta State University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Shorter, in Gulf South Conference action, on Sunday at Ben Brady Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • McGill opened the scoring in the first minute, as she beat Shorter goalkeeper Sydney Durham just 54 seconds into the contest.
  • The Lady Statesmen held on to the lead after the first 45 minutes. Both teams recorded six first half shots.
  • Shorter found an equalizer in the 80th minute, as Bianca Da Silva scored her first goal of the season.
  • Just when it seemed the two sides would play an overtime game for the second straight season, McGill scored her second in the game, when her 87th minute shot found the back of the net.

STAT OF THE GAME:
  • The nine Lady Hawks were the fewst the Lady Statesmen defense have allowed this season.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • After dropping 21 straight GSC contests, the Lady Statesmen are now  3-5 in their last eight conference matches.
  • McGill's four goals are tied for second in the league.
