JACKSON, Miss. - Nova Southeastern got a late goal from Nate Matthews, and the Delta State University men's soccer fell 2-1 to the Sharks on Saturday afternoon on the campus Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Nova Southeastern's Bestun Mohammed ripped a shot that goalkeeper Harvey Stevens blocked just 14 seconds into the game, applying some early pressure on the Statesmen.
- The Sharks' shot barrage continued throughout the first half of play, outshooting the Statesmen 11-1.
- Delta State would strike first, as senior Brock Hollier scored his first goal of the season in the 20th minute off of an assist from sophomore Myron Duffy.
- The Statesmen, however, would be forced to play a man down the rest of the way, as sophomore Tom Bar-Yosef was issued his second yellow card and subsequently given a red card with eight minutes to go before the halftime break.
- In the 42nd minute, Nova Southeastern tied the game on a goal from Ignacio Goya. Lucas Dessoliers assisted Goya's goal, drawing the game even at the break.
- The second half saw Nova Southeastern continue to put the pressure on the Statesmen, as the Sharks registered 10 second half shots to just five for the Green-and-White.
- The contest remained knotted at one goal apiece until the 86th minute, when the Sharks took the late lead on a Nate Matthews goal. Ignacio Goya assisted the game-winning goal for the Sharks, who notched their first win of the season by a final score of 2-1.
- Both teams had four shots on goal each, and each team was whistled for 11 fouls.
- Harvey Stevens made two saves in goal for Delta State, and Nico Rosiglioni made three saves in goal for the Sharks
BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
- Hollier recorded his 7th career goal in a Statesmen uniform, and Duffy tallied his first career assist for the Green-and-White.

The Statesmen return home for the first home weekend of the season on September 8 and September 10, when they will play Harding University and Ouachita Baptist University. Both game times are set to kick at 4 p.m.
