CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's basketball team held its second consecutive opponent to seven second half field goals, and got 19 points from
Brett Warner and 20 points from
PJ Davis as the Statesmen outscored Alabama Huntsville 33-26 in the second half en route to a 62-50 victory over the Chargers on Tuesday night in Gulf South Conference action at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

TURNING POINT:
- With 13:15 left to play and Alabama Huntsville cutting a 10-point Delta State lead down to five, the Statesmen responded with a 9-2 run to take a 49-37 lead that they would hold the rest of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Delta State made 23 of its 56 shot attempts, finishing at 41 percent for the contest. The Statesmen went 6-of-18 from three and 10-of-15 from the free throw line in the win. The Chargers shot 35 percent (16-of-46) percent from the floor, and went just 5-of-21 (24 percent) from three-point territory. UAH posted a 13-of-20 mark from the free throw line.
- The Statesmen muscled out the Chargers on the glass, grabbing 38 rebounds to UAH's 33.
- DSU had 15 assists to Alabama Huntsville's six, and had seven steals to the Chargers' four.
- Brett Warner had 10 second-half points to finish with 19, and Davis added 20 points on the night.
- Armon Benford filled up the stat sheet again, contributing five points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
- Chayse Elliot led the way for the Chargers with 16 points.
INSIDE THE FLOW:
- Both teams played the opening five minutes within one possession of each other, and the Statesmen held an 11-8 advantage with 13:51 to play in the first half.
- Delta State used a 14-6 run to the 6:06 mark of the first half to take a nine-point, 25-16 advantage, their largest lead of the first half.
- UAH responded, however, as the Chargers used an 8-4 run on baskets from four different players to cut the DSU lead down to five, as the Green-and-White took a 29-24 lead into the half.
- The Statesmen went on a 10-5 run out of the locker room at take a 39-29 lead with 16:05 to play, but Alabama Huntsville would cut the lead down to five points, 40-35, with 13:15 to go.
- Delta State responded with a 9-2 run, including five points from Matthew Wilson, to make it 49-37 with 11:18 to play, and built a 17-point, 62-45 lead with 3:45 left.
NOTABLES:
- Coach Jim Boone won his 100th game at the helm of the Statesmen. He needs three more wins to move into third all-time in DSU history.
- PJ Davis scored in double-figures for the seventh consecutive game, and
- Armon Benford tallied his fifth game of at least five points, five rebounds and five assists.
- The Statesmen have held their last two opponents to 17 field goals or less (UWG-17, UAH-16), and have held their last two opponents to seven second half field goals.
- Delta State led the game for more than 37 minutes for the second consecutive game as well.
