Jordan's 19 Not Enough As Valdosta State Downs DSU 61-46

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Takisha Jordan scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but Valdosta State hit five first-half three-pointers and built a 10-point lead at the break that proved insurmountable as the Lady Blazers knocked off the Delta State University women's basketball team 61-46 on Sunday afternoon at The Complex in Gulf South Conference action.

TURNING POINT:
  • The Lady Blazers hit five first half three-pointers and build a 10-point first half lead that proved to be too much for Delta State to handle, as Valdosta State notched their fourth GSC victory. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • Delta State made 17 of its 48 shots, finishing at 35 percent for the contest. The Lady Statesmen went just 2-of-13 from three (15 percent) and 10-of-15 (67 percent) from the free throw line.
  • The Lady Blazers shot 38 percent (18-of-47) percent from the floor, and went 7-of-17 (41 percent) from three-point territory. VSU was 18-for-20 from the free throw line. 
  • Valdosta State edged Delta State 32-31 on the glass, and had nine assists to Delta State's two. 
  • DSU turned it over 13 times, while VSU turned the ball over 10 times. 
  • The Lady Blazers outscored the Lady Statesmen 20-8 in the paint.
  • Takisha Jordan scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Lady Statesmen. Alexis Ross chipped in 11 points.
  • Kenya Samone Dixon had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Madi Mitchell tallied 17 points and five rebounds for VSU.

 INSIDE THE FLOW:
 
  • Both teams committed three early turnovers, and the Lady Statesmen scored on two of them to take a 6-5 lead with 6:22 to play in the first quarter. 
  • Valdosta State responded with a 10-4 run to close the quarter, however, as Taylor Buie hit a three-pointer and Madi Mitchell tallied five points in the opening stanza.
  • The Lady Blazers continued the offensive pressure in the second quarter, putting up 16 more points to take a 31-21 lead at the break. VSU went 5-of-11 from three-point territory in the first half, while Delta State went just 1-of-6 from downtown.
  • Takisha Jordan posted nine points, four rebounds and one assist to lead DSU, and Kenya Samone Dixon had 11 points, including going 3-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the three-point arc at the break.
  • VSU used a 10-2 run out of the locker room to take their largest lead of 18 points, 41-23, with 3:30 left in the third quarter. 
  • The Lady Blazers built a 20-point lead, 43-23 lead behind a 10-for-10 mark at the free throw line in the third, but DSU closed the quarter on a 7-3 run capped by an Erin Richardson three-pointer as DSU trailed 45-30 headed to the fourth. 
  • An Alondrea Rush jumper and four straight from Takisha Jordan cut the lead to 12 with 2:28 to play for DSU, but Samone Dixon drilled a triple to take it back to 15 and VSU closed out the win 61-56.

  • Alexis Ross posted her second consecutive game in double-figures, and is averaging 14 points in her last two games.
