CLEVELAND, Miss. – Visiting Valdosta State scored a pair of goals in each half to record a 4-0 victory over the Delta State University women's soccer team, on a cool and rainy afternoon, on Tuesday at Delta Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Valdosta State opened the scoring in the 14th minute, when its leading scorer, Ashley Lewis, found the back of the net from the right side of the box.
- Just over one minute later Riley Tennant gave the Lady Blazers a 2-0 lead, as she finished off a cross from Mallory McDaniel.
- VSU outshot the Lady Statesmen 6-3 in the opening half.
- Just when it seemed that DSU could a bit of momentum the visitors saw Tennant score her second of the match, this time, from 20 yards out, giving VSU a 3-0 lead in the 55th minute.
- The Lady Blazers finished the scoring in the 63rd minute on Lewis' second goal of the match, as she finished off Tennant's cross from the right side.
- VSU finished the game with a 12-8 edge in shots. Ella Dennis had two saves for the Lady Statesmen, while starting goalkeeper Caroline Embler and Samantha Blanford combined for five VSU saves.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- VSU scored two goals in a 1:14 span to take control of the match.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Lewis has scored three goals in two games against DSU, including the winner in double overtime last year.
- The 4-0 setback broke a streak of three straight 1-0 losses to VSU.
- DSU has failed to score in its last five meetings against the Lady Blazers.
- In their seven losses the Lady Statesmen have failed to score in five of those contests.
