Three Second Half Goals Lift Montevallo to Win Over Statesmen

Montevallo, Ala.– Three second half goals from the University of Montevallo lift the Falcons past the Delta State University men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon. Bruno Osorio scored a first half goal for DSU, but the Statesmen could not hold the lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Delta State struck first in the 25th minute. Bruno Osorio intercepted a pass, then dribbled to the edge of the 18 yard box, and shot it into the top left corner.
  • In the 28th minute the Falcons had a shot from Liam Moore that hit off of the post.
  • Liam Moore scored on a through ball in the 50th minute to tie the game up.
  • On a cross from Arad Lev, Antoni Matabosch put the Falcons up 2-1 in the 57th minute.
  • Carlos Bestard had a great steal and shot in the 63rd minute, but just missed the frame.
  • Antoni Matabosch and Louis Ferguson both earned yellow cards in the 65th minute.
  • The Falcons scored their third goal of the half on a strike by Filippo Perry in the 75th minute.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
  • Statesmen still have never beaten or tied Montevallo in nine games.
  • The Falcons are the only current GSC team DSU has never gotten a result against.
  • Osorio now leads the Statesmen with five goals on the season.
  • Montevallo outshot DSU 15-13.
  • The Statesmen had eight corners but could not capitalize.
  • Montevallo was offside 11 times in the game.

UP NEXT:
The Statesmen are at home for the final three games of the season as they host Southern Nazarene on Tuesday at 3 PM. Then host Spring Hill on Thursday and West Florida on Saturday.
