CLEVELAND, Miss.– The Delta State University men's soccer team had their highest scoring total of the season as they beat Southern Nazarene 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Matthew Edwards led the way for DSU with two goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Delta State struck first in the second minute as Matthew Edwards headed one home off a cross from Bruno Osorio.
- In the 20th minute DSU had an opportunity to extend the lead but Daniel Himahy's rocket shot from 30 yards out just hit the crossbar.
- SNU equalized in the 28th minute on a breakaway goal from Marcel Joseph.
- Then in the 43rd minute Osorio slotted home a penalty kick to retake the lead.
- In the second half, DSU earned a third goal in the 61st minute. Himahy took another shot that bounced off a SNU defender and went in for an own goal.
- The Green and White added another when Carlos Bestard slid in a goal off of a pass from Charles Barkman 79 minutes in.
- Matthew Edwards added his second goal of the game on a diving header off a corner in the 82nd minute. Barkman added his second assist of the game.
- Then in the 89th minute, Ibrahima Sow earned his first goal scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
- DSU out shot SNU 19-9 and doubled the amount of corner kicks.
- Both Edwards and Sow earned their first goals of their DSU careers this afternoon.
- Osorio continues to lead the Statesmen now with six on the season. He has converted two penalty kicks in two tries.
- The six goals is the most scored in a game this season. The last time DSU scored more than three in a game was last year against Auburn Montgomery where they scored four.
- The last time the Statesmen scored six goals in a game was against Talladega College on September 30, 2011.
