Lady Statesmen Score Two in Each Half in Shutout of Union

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Delta State University women's soccer team scored two goals in each half, and goalkeeper Amanda Hilliard had 12 saves in a 4-0 shuout victory over Union, in Gulf South Conference action, on Friday evening, at Smith Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Diana Okechukwu gave DSU an early 1-0 lead, as she scored in the 16th minute, off an assist from Casey LaFontaine.
  • In the 27th minute, Jasmine McGill scored her second goal of the season to give the Lady Statesmen a 2-0 lead.
  • The Lady Statesmen were outshot 11-9 in the first half, as Union forced four saves by Hilliard.
  • Hilliard and DSU held off multiple onslaughts by the Lady Bulldogs in the second half, until Erin Longsden scored off an assist from Tasha Toms in the 80th minute. 
  • Anna Whitehead finished the scoring in the 83rd minute, giving DSU its fourth goal of the match.
  • Union outshout the Lady Statesmen 27-18, including a 12-10 advantage in shots on goal.
STAT OF THE GAME:
  • Hilliard's 10 saves helped keep the Lady Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
