CLEVELAND, Miss. - Fans can bring a non-perishable food item and receive free admission to the Delta State University men's basketball(0-2) home games against Fisk University (0-1) on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and Miles College (0-0) on Sat., Nov. 17 at 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN:

  • TOUGH START: The Statesmen opened the 2018-19 season falling to Eckerd (85-78) and Florida Southern (79-74) at the GSC/SSC Challenge on Nov. 9-10 in Lakeland, Fla. DSU starts a season 0-2 for the 20th time in school history and has a 14-6 overall record in games after starting a 0-2 start.  The Green-and-White captured a 72-62 win over Central Baptist (11.14.17) after last season. The Statesmen rebounded to finish 2017-18 as the runner-up in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.
     
  • WARNER CLIMBING THE CHARTS:  Brett Warner keeps moving up the 3-point field goals chart, passing  Larry Walker (1997-99) for 5th in career 3-point field goals made (147). The senior sharpshooter is 5th in 3-pointers attempted with 413, passing Brad Longino (407/1990-93) for 4th.
     
  • EARLY IMPACT: Columbia State transfer Justin Slocum has had an immediate impact through two games in the paint for the Statesmen. Slocumb ranks 3rd in the GSC with 8.0 rebounds per game trailing only Montevallo's De'Marco Owens (10.5 rpg.) and Mississippi College Brandon Boston (9.0 rpg.). The Macon, Ga., native is 14th in assists (3.5) and 2nd (9th NCAA) in assist/turnover ratio (7.0/7A/1TO) and is 21st in the NCAA         in offensive rebounds (4.5 orpg).
     
  • GSC NUMBERS: Brett Warner and Matthew Wilson are ranked 9th and 11th in the GSC in scoring, averaging 17 and 16.5 points per game, respectively. Wilson is 3rd in 3-pointers made per game (3.5), 9th in 3-point FG percentage (50.0), and 15th in FG percentage (48.1). Cedric Harper is 4th in field goal percentage (66.7). Armon Benford is 6th in assists (5.0) followed by Warner (4.5 apg.)
     
  • ABOUT MILES: The Statesmen and Miles are meeting for the 10th time with the Statesmen owning an 8-2 record. Miles is located just outside of Birmingham, Ala., in Fairfield.  The Bears are coached by Fred Watson, who is in his first season at Miles College after spending 16 seasons as Benedict College, where he posted a 320-150 record.
     
  • ABOUT FISK: The Bulldogs are under the direction of first-year head coach Kenny Anderson. Anderson, 47, played in the NBA from 1991-2005. He made the 1994 NBA All-Star Game while playing for the New Jersey Nets, who selected him with the No. 2 pick in the 1991 draft. Fisk is located in Nashville, Tenn., and is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II.
