TIP-OFF NEWS AND NOTES:
The Lady Statesmen are coming off an 2-0 weekend in Fairfield, Ala. DSU won both games against SIAC opponents. All four games played so far are in-region games for DSU.
Against Miles, there were a combined 49 fouls called in the ball game leading to 54 free throws. DSU was 19-28 from the charity stripe while Miles was 17-26. The Lady Statesmen outscored Miles in the paint 26-24. It was a season high 16 assists for DSU with seven Lady Statesmen dishing out passes. Miles was only 35 percent shooting from the field. The Golden Bears out-rebounded DSU 34-29 with 17 offensive and 17 defensive rebounds. Quantesha Patterson only had seven points but was 3-3 from the floor. Kirstin Brown had a career high seven points with four of the points coming from the free throw line.
Against Lane was the lowest scoring game for the Lady Statesmen. It was the first time that DSU did not score in the 60s. This was the lowest scoring total for a Lady Statesmen opponent since Christian Brothers scored 30 points at Walter-Sillers Coliseum on December 10, 2015. DSU has still never lost to Lane College and is now 7-0 all-time. There were a combined 38 fouls called in the ball game with Lane committing 25 of them. Lane outscored DSU in the paint 18-10. The Green and White committed 23 turnovers in the game.
SHC Notes: The Badgers have opened up playing three GSC opponents in their first six games. They lost to Montevallo and UWF while beating AUM. SHC is in their first season of NCAA DII postseason eligibility.
SHC Key Players: Spring Hill has been led by Tiffany Valentine who is averaging 23.2 ppg and 8.2 rebounds. Elise Reilly is adding 18.0 ppg while making 21 3-point shots. Katie Krout is pulling down 6.0 rebounds per game.
