MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (1-0) used a big fourth quarter to upend the Delta State University women's basketball team (0-1) 70-62 at the GSC/SSC Crossover on Friday.

Nova Southeastern outscored the Lady Statesmen 27-10 in the fourth quarter and used 14-0 run that spanned the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters to erase a 10-point deficit.

TURNING POINT

• Nova Southeastern went on a 14-0 run that spanned the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth quarter to erase a 10-point deficit.
• The Sharks shot 73 percent from the floor and went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc while outscoring DSU 27-10 in the fourth quarter.

• Nia Johnson led the Lady Statesmen with career-high 20 points, making 10-of-12 shots.
• Zyaire Ewing and Quntesha Patterson added 11 points apiece.
• Patterson had a game-high seven rebounds and Aliyah Herod had five assists for the Lady Statesmen.
• The Sharks were led by Haley Conley with 20 points and Alison Hughes with 19 points.
• Esabelle Levine chipped in 10 points as the final Shark to score in double figures.
• The Sharks produced 30 points going 10-for-28 from behind the 3-point line, including
• Senior Alondrea Rush made the Lady Statesmen only 3-pointers, going 2-for-3 for six points.  

INSIDE THE FLOW

• Trailing 11-8, Rush nailed a 3-pointer and followed by a Johnson basket to put DSU in front 13-11 with 3:44 left in the first quarter.
• Chapman's layup gave put the Lady Statesmen a 19-15 advantage with 32 seconds to go before NSU made two free throws cut the lead to 19-17 at the end of the quarter.
• A Patterson jumper at the 5:24 mark gave DSU a 27-20 lead before taking a 31-28 lead at intermission.
• The Green-and-White grabbed a 43-33 lead following a Ewing basket midway through the third period.
• The lead grew to 52-40 on Federica Haywood's layup with 37 seconds to go in the third before a Conley 3-pointer cut the DSU lead to 52-43 heading into the final quarter.
• The Conley 3-pointer kick-started a 14-0 NSU run that erased the deficit and give the Sharks 57-52 lead after a Conley layup with 7:01 remaining in the fourth quarter.
• NSU outscored the Lady Statesmen 27-10 in the fourth quarter to take the win.

NOTABLES

• Federicka Haywood, Kirstin Brown, Tamia Cunigan, Jordan LeNoir, Chatman, Ewing, Patterson, and Johnson played their first game for the Lady Statesmen against Nova Southeastern.
• This was the fifth meeting in the series with Nova Southeastern winning all five meetings to date.
