Fourth Quarter Push Lifts Lady Statesmen Past UAM

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Alondrea Rush and Quantesha Patterson scored six points each in the fourth quarter to help Delta State University women's basketball (8-3) pull out a 75-64 win over Arkansas Monticello (3-6) on Wednesday.
 
The game featured nine ties and five lead changes before the Lady Statesmen went on a 14-6 run to open up a 69-60 lead midway through the final period.
 
Rush led the Lady Statesmen with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, to move into a tie for 34th on the all-time scoring list. The Horn Lake, Miss., native is tied with Lynn Rose (1994-96) with 1,051 career points.
 
Ernesha Chatman finished with 12 points and a career-best six assists followed by Kirstin Brown with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds and Patterson had 10 points and six boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Statesmen faced a 10-3 deficit in the first quarter before an 8-3 run cut the UAM lead to 12-11 after a Kirstin Brown la up with 5:20 left.
  • UAM led 18-13 with 3:32 remaining when the Lady Statesmen used a 7-1 run to take a 20-19 lead after a 3-point play by Alondrea rush with 40 seconds left. 
  • A Taylor Farley free-throw tied the game 20-20 heading to the second quarter.
  • The Cotton Blossoms opened the second period on a 7-0 to build a 27-20 lead on a Chari Swift layup.
  • A Brown layup and an Ernesha Chatman 3-pointer cut the UAM lead to 27-25 with 4:24 to go before intermission.
  • UAM scored the final five points of the second quarter to lead 32-25 at halftime.
  • The third quarter saw seven ties and three and three lead changes.
  • UAM held a 36-30 lead before a 6-0 run tied the game at 36 after a Quantesha Patterson basket with 6:07 to go.
  • Chatman nailed a 3-pointer to give the Lady Statesmen a 53-50 lead heading into the final stanza.
  • The Lady Statesmen grabbed a 62-54 lead on the heels of a 7-0 run following a Nia Johnson jump shot with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Alondrea Rush's 3-pointer opened up a 67-58 lead with 4:05 before the lead stretch to 73-62 on two free throws by Chatman at the 1:30 mark.
  • Rush finished the scoring with a pair of free throws with 21 seconds showing on the fourth quarter clock.

TURNING POINT
  • The Lady Statesmen outscored the UAM 22-14 in the fourth quarter including a 14-6 spurt midway through the fourth quarter.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
  • Delta State shot 54.5 percent from 3-point range, going 6-for-11 while going 11-for-13 from the charity stripe for 84.6 percent.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Rush led four Lady Statesmen in double figures with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, to move into a tie for 34th on the all-time scoring list. The Horn Lake, Miss., native is tied with Lynn Rose (1994-96) with 1,051 career points.
