Lady Statesmen Drop Two on Final Day of Gulf Coast Invite

GULF SHORES, Ala. -  The Delta State University softball team suffered a pair of shutout losses on the final day of the Gulf Coast Invite. The Lady Statesmen fell 3-0 to No. 7 North Georgia in the opener and finished the day with a 6-0 setback to Young Harris. The Lady Statesmen finished the three game event with a 3-3 record.

GAME 1: No. 7 North Georgia (5-0) 3, DSU (3-2) 0
 
Game Changer
- Trailing 3-0 in the top of the fifth, DSU had a pair of runners on with just one out but a strikeout and a ground ball to the pitcher ended the threat.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Lady Statesmen were outhit 4-2.
- Chelsea Lamping and Abi Gibson had the two DSU hits.
- Mari Alex Sandridge held the UNG lineup that finished the six game tournament with 42 hits to just four.


 Key Plays
-UNG scored a pair of runs in the third inning, using a fielders choice RBI and a double steal.
- The Nighthawks finished the scoring in the fourth on an RBI single.
