Lady Statesmen Fall in Series Finale at UWA

Livingston, Ala. -- West Alabama scored seven runs in the sixth inning to claim a 12-8 victory over the Delta State University softball team, on Friday at the UWA Softball Complex.

Final Score: WEST ALABAMA 12 (9-19, 5-10 GSC) DELTA STATE 8 (13-16, 6-9 GSC)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Tigers scored seven runs on just four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Delta State out hit UWA 15-13. 
- Marissa Landrum led the Lady Statesmen with four hits.
- Kelly Byrd hit a pair of home runs, and led DSU with three RBIs.
- Five Lady Statesmen had multiple hits.
- DSU left 13 runners on base.

KEY PLAYS:
- DSU jumped on top 4-0 in the top of the first, using Byrd's two run home run and a two out single from Carlie Vice.
- UWA answered in the bottom of the inning, plating three runs on a trio of RBI singles.
- In the third inning DSU added three more runs on an RBI single from Kaitlyn Eaves and a two RBI base knock from Mari Alex Sandridge.
- UWA added two runs in the 5th before adding seven in the 6th inning.
- Byrd added her second home run of the game, which was a solo shot, in the seventh inning.
 
NOTEWORTHY:
- The 15 hits are the second-most in a game this season.
- The 5 errors by DSU are a season high.
- Byrd's two home runs marked her seventh multi-hit game and her first game with multiple home runs. Her eight home runs are tied for 11th in DSU single     
  season history.
- DSU has lost five games when it has outhit its opponent.

NEXT UP:
Delta State returns home for eight straight contests at University Field. On Tuesday March 20, the Lady Statesmen are scheduled to host the University of Arkansas-Monticello with a doubleheader starting at  2 P.M.
