CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The Delta State University softball team picked up an 8-4 come-from-behind victory to earn a doubleheader split with West Georgia, in Gulf South Conference action, on Friday at University Softball Field. UWG earned a 13-1 (5) victory in the opener.
GAME 1: WEST GEORGIA 13, DELTA STATE 1 (5)

GAME CHANGER:
- The Wolves sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs on seven hits, in the top of the first inning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- West Georgia exploded for 13 hits, while DSU had six.Â

Abi Gibson (2-for-3) was the only DSU player with multiple hits.

Kelly Byrd and a home run for
Carlie Vice were the only extra base hits for DSU.

- In the top of the first inning, the Lady Statesmen had runners on first and second with one out, but failed to get a run across.
- UWG scored eight runs in the first, highlighted by four RBI singles and a three-run home run.
- With the Wolves up 11-0, the Lady Statesmen scored their lone run of the game in the fourth on Vice's home run.
- UWG finished the scoring in the fourth on an RBI single and a run-scoring double.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The 13 runs are the most scored by a DSU opponent since Arkansas Monticello defeated the Lady Statesmen 14-7 on April 16, 2015.
- The 13 hits by UWG are the most by a DSU opponent this season.
- With her home run Vice reached base safely for the 15th straight game.

- With the Lady Statesmen trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh,
Jordan Jones hit a three-run home run to give the Lady Statesmen a 6-4 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Statesmen had a 13-8 advantage in hits.

Marissa Landrum led the Lady Statesmen, going three-for-four at the plate. Gibson, Byrd,
Madison Bigner and Jones all had two hits apiece.
- Jones drove in four runs, while Byrd had a home run and a two-RBI single.
- Bigner (3-0) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
KEY PLAYS:
- UWG opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by Sydney Smith.
- DSU answered in the top of the second on a fielders choice RBI by

- Byrd's home run and an RBI single by Jones gave the Lady Statesmen a 3-1 lead in the third.

NOTEWORTHY:
- Byrd now leads the Lady Statesmen with five multiple-RBI games. DSU is 10-1 when Byrd drives in a run.
- Gibson is tied for the team lead with six multi-hit contests.
- The Lady Statesmen have now won three games when trailing in the fifth inning, or later.
- The 13 hits for DSU are its second most this season.
