FLORENCE, Ala. -- No. 4 North Alabama held the Delta State University softball team to just four hits in a 2-0 victory, in Gulf South Conference action, on Friday at the UNA Softball complex.

GAME CHANGER:
- Megan Garst struck out eight DSU hitters, and allowed just five baserunners.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Statesmen were outhit 6-4.
- Four different DSU players recorded hits.
- Three UNA hits were for extra bases.

Taylor Johnson (10-9) went the distance and allowed just two runs on six scattered hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
KEY PLAYS:
- UNA opened the scoring in the third inning getting back-to-back doubles, with two outs, by Meleah Hargett and Kara Brewer.Â
- The Lady Statesmen had a pair of runners on with just one out in the fifth, but a double play ended the threat.
- Hargett gave the Lions their second and final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, when she hit a home run off the top of the left field fence.
- DSU had another chance in the sixth but had a runner get thrown out at the plate, on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Garst then forced a groundout with a pair of runners on base to end the threat.

NOTEWORTHY:
- Johnson held UNA to its fewest runs in the last 15 games and the lowest total since being held scoreless in the season opener (North Georgia, 2.2.18). The six hits by the Lions are tie their fourth-fewest of the
 season.
- DSU is now 4-12 when being outhit by its opponent.
- Byrd has reached base safely in 23 straight games.
- The Lady Statesmen are 12-16 when their opposition scores the first run of the game.
