JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Delta State University softball team earned a 3-1 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader, but fell 3-2 (8) in the nightcap to split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with Union, on Sunday at Fesmire Field. The loss snapped a nine game win streak for the Lady Statesmen.

Jordan Jones drove in what proved to be the winning runs
 with a two-RBI double in the top of the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Statesmen were outhit 6-4
- Two of DSU's hits were for extra bases, including Jones' double and a home run by
Kaitlyn Eaves.
- Jones also had a pair of walks.
- Four different Lady Statesmen accounted for all four hits.
- Both teams left six runners on base.

- Eaves gave the Lady Statesmen a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run to right center field.

- Union took advantage of an error to score its lone run of the game, in the bottom of the seventh, with a two

NOTEWORTHY:
- The win gave DSU its ninth win in a row.
- Eaves' home run was her second of the season.
- Jones has driven in at least one run in five of the last six games.
- The Lady Statesmen are now 3-9 when being outhit by their opponent.

- Union scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a fielders choice RBI by Gabby Morris.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Union outhit the Lady Statesmen 7-5.

Kelly Byrd led DSU with a pair of hits. Her RBI double in the first inning was the only extra base hit for the
 Lady Statesmen.

Nicole Fullilove (7-3) allowed three runs, on seven hits, with three strikeouts and a walk.
KEY PLAYS:
- The Lady Statesmen opened the scoring the top of the first on Byrd's RBI double and a fielders choice RBI
  from Eaves.
- Union answered with a two-run home run by leadoff batter Samantha McDaniel in the third.
- Union had the game-winning run on second in the bottom of the seventh, but Fullilove forced back-to-back
  groundouts to end the threat.
- The Lady Bulldogs ended the game on Morris' fielders choice RBI, as Emily Bennett slid just under the tag
  to score the winner.
- The Lady Statesmen left runners on base in each of the last five innings.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The loss ended a nine-game win streak for DSU.
- Byrd has reached base safely in 18 straight games.
- The nine combined hits for DSU are the fewest in a doubleheader since Auburn Montgomery limited DSUÂ Â
  to just eight on March 3.
