CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's soccer team scored a goal in each half to defeat Mississippi University for Women, in the opening game of the season for both teams, on Saturday at Delta Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After an offensive barrage, that consisted of eight early shots, L.T. Massey got the Lady Statesmen on the board in the 32nd minute with a long range effort.
- DSU outshout the visitors 12-0 in the opening 45 minutes.
- After the Lady Statesmen had seven shots in the first 14 minutes of the second half, Jasmine McGill's shot was deflected and found the back of the net.
- In the 88th minute, Erin Longsden nearly made it 3-0 but her powerful strike rattled off the crossbar.
- DSU outshot the visitors 27-2, including a 12-1 advantage in shots on target.
- Longsden led the Lady Statesmen with five shots.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- The Lady Statesmen outshot the Owls 27-2.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- With the win the Lady Statesmen improve to 6-10 all-time in season openers.
- This marked the first official match in program history for MUW.
- MaGill's eight career goals are tied for eighth in program history.
- The 27 shots are the most for DSU since they had 29 against Louisiana College on Sept. 7, 2016.
