Tigers Prove too Much for Lady Statesmen

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama scored a goal in the first half, and added two in the second in a 3-0 shutout over the Delta State University women's soccer team, on Sunday at Tiger Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After an evenly played first 36 minutes, Anele Komani scored her fifth goal of the season to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
  • UWA outshot the Lady Statesmen 10-5 in the opening 45 minutes. DSU had a 3-2 edge in shots on goal in the first half.
  • In the 60th minute, TeMia Pride's header past DSU goalkeeper Amanda Hilliard gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
  • UWA finished the scoring less than five minutes later, when Kaylah Butterworth smashed home a rebound.
  • Hilliard finished five saves for DSU.
  • The Tigers finished the game with a 26-10 advantage in shots, but just seven of their shots were on goal.
 
STAT OF THE GAME:
  • Komani and Pride, who are tied for second in the GSC in goals, combined for two goals and an assist.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The 3-0 result marked the second straight year that the Tigers have defeated the Lady Statesmen by the same scoreline.

UP NEXT: The Lady Statesmen return home to face Hendrix for a non-conference matchup. DSU claimed a 2-1 victory over the Warriors last season.
