CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's soccer team earned their first win of the season defeating Shorter University 3-2 in double overtime on Sunday. Junior Zachary Breaux scored the game winning goal in the 102^nd minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• DSU got on the board first off of a header by Bruno Osorio in the 15^th minute.
• Twenty minutes later the Statesmen struck again. This time with a goal by John Nicklas.
• After a foul by Owen Howard in the 59th minute, Val Evans scored on a penalty kick for Shorter.
• Then in the 76^th minute, Thallison Alex scored the equalizer for the Hawks.
• The game winning goal came from Zachary Breaux in the second overtime. His diving header came from a cross by Osorio in the 102^nd minute.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS:

• Statesmen had a season high 20 shots with 14 of those on target.
• Matthew Klink recorded eight saves in the first win of the year for DSU.
• John Nicklas scored the first goal of his DSU career.
• Zachary Breaux earned his first game winning goal and the third goal of his career.
• There were six yellow cards given in the contest with the Statesmen picking up four.
• This was the highest scoring game of the season for the Statesmen.
• Two of the last three matches have gone into double overtime with DSU now 1-1 in extra time this year.
• It was the first GSC win for DSU since October 20, 2017 when the Green and White beat Auburn Montgomery 4-1.
