CLEVELAND, Miss. – Visiting Shorter University scored two second half goals to defeat the Delta State University women's soccer team, in come-from-behind fashion, 3-2 on Sunday at Delta Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Shorter struck first, when in the ninth minute, Bianca Martins Da Silva found a loose ball in the box and fired it into the back of the net.
- The Lady Statesmen responded less than two minutes later, as Diana Okechukwu took a long ball from L.T. Massey and beat the keeper.
- After the opening 45 minutes, DSU held a 7-2 advantage in shots.
- Casey LaFontaine put the Lady Statesmen ahead in the 51st minute, after she received a pass from Anoucke Bass and placed a shot into the top right corner.
- Erica Hiller equalized for the visitors 11 minutes later, as she took advantage of a defensive miscue and saw her shot get past DSU goalkeeper Heather Travis.
- Hiller scored the match winner in the 70th minute, when her shot from just less than 20 yards out found the top corner.
- DSU pressed for a late equalizer but was unable to test the Lady Hawks goalkeeper, Sydney Durham.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- Despite being outshot, 18-7, the Lady Hawks were able to earn the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The victory over DSU was the first for Shorter on the road against GSC foe since defeating the Lady Statesmen 2-1, on Oct. 18, 2016.
- The loss snapped a two match win streak against the Lady Hawks.
- Okechukwu is now tied for the team lead with three goals.
- Massey is tied for the team lead with two assists.
UP NEXT: On Friday, Oct. 5, the Lady Statesmen hit the road to face Union University. Last season, the Lady Statesmen came from behind to defeat the Lady Bulldogs 3-2.
