2018 Fall @GulfSouth All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala
. - The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce the academic awards for the 2018 fall season and the Delta State University Department of Athletics placed 84 Statesmen and Lady Statesmen among the list of recipients. DSU's 84 honorees trailed only Mississippi College (90) and West Florida (87) among league members. The fall sports honored are men's cross country, women's cross country, football, men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball. Delta State's complete list of recipients is below.

"We are very proud of the academic efforts of our student-athletes and I believe today's release is an excellent example of the dedication they have in the class room," Director of Athletics Mike Kinnison said. "Our coaches work diligently to help our student-athletes reach their goals on the field and especially in the classroom."

Delta State football led the way for Thursday's programs with 32 honorees followed by Lady Statesmen soccer (29), Statesmen soccer (20) and Lady Statesmen cross country (3).

In addition to the 84 GSC Academic Honor Roll recipients, Chandler Ector (Sr./LB) and Cody Mills (Sr./P) were both named to the GSC's All-Academic Football Team for a second straight year.

Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities. SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.

A total of 978 student-athletes finished with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and were named to the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
