MEMPHIS, Tenn. –A turnover plagued fourth quarter was the unraveling for the Delta State University women's basketball team, as Christian Brothers University outscored the Lady Statesmen (10-7, 5-5 GSC) 23-12 en route to a 72-69 victory on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Canale Arena. Kenzie Jones led the Lady Bucs (6-9, 3-7 GSC) and all scorers with 24 points, as CBU claimed its fifth victory in 49 games versus DSU.
Alondrea Rush led the Lady Statesmen with 20 points and five rebounds.
Quantesha Patterson turned in her fourth double-double for DSU with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Frederica Haywood led DSU and all rebounders with 15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delta State raced out of the locker room in the first quarter, building a 13-3 lead at the 4:25 media timeout. Alondrea Rush had five points and two assists to fuel to the early start.
- After trailing by as many as 13 points, 17-4 with 1:35 remaining in the quarter, Christian Brothers closed the first quarter on 7-2 run to cut the deficit to eight, 19-11, at the end of the period.
- Sara Owen's 3-pointer with 9:08 to play in the second made it a five-point game, 19-14, as CBU continued to chip away at the Lady Statesmen lead.
- Back-to-back baskets by Nia Johnson and Frederica Haywood put the Lady Statesmen back up nine, 25-16, with 6:35 to go in the half.
- CBU got it four with 4:13 to play in the second, as Kenzie Jones' driving layup made it a 25-21 game.
- After a 3-pointer from Rush put the Lady Statesmen up seven, the Lady Bucs answered with back-to-back 3-pointers by Mackenzie Lane and Rachel Lee to cut the deficit to one, 30-29, with 2:18 to go.
- Jordan Lenoir canned a deep 3-pointer to spark a 7-0 run to close the half for the Lady Statesmen, as Delta State led 37-29 at the break.
- The Lady Statesmen were led by Rush's 10 points and Haywood's 11 rebounds while Jones paced CBJU and all scorers with 12 points.
- DSU scored the first five points of the third quarter to go back up by 13, but CBU cut it to nine at the media timeout on a pair of 3-pointers by Lee and Jones.
- CBU made 4-of-7 from 3-point range in the third quarter to keep the deficit at eight points, 57-49, at the end of the period. Both teams scored 20 points in the third quarter.
- With 7:09 remaining in the game, Brynne Lytle drilled a deep 3-pointer to put the Lady Bucs within three of DSU, 59-56.
- After a quick DSU turnover, Jones tied the game at 59-59 with a layup. Fouled in the process, the sophomore completed the three-point play at the free throw line.
- Lauren Taylor's driving layup in the lane with 5:06 to play gave CBU its first lead of the game, 61-59.
- Another DSU turnover led to an easy conversion on the offensive end for CBU, as Lee put the Lady Bucs up four, 63-59 with 4:34 left in regulation.
- Rush's 15-foot jumper ended a 12-0 run by the Lady Bucs and cut the deficit to two, 63-61.
- On CBU's next possession, Owen nailed her second 3-pointer to put the Lady Bucs up five, 66-61.
- After DSU's sixth turnover of the half, Taylor put CBU up seven, 68-61, with a jumper at the free throw line with 1:55 remaining.
- With both teams trading baskets, Rush's fourth 3-pointer of the game cut the CBU lead to four, 70-66, with 36.1 seconds left in the game.
- After CBU's Taylor made 1-of-2 free throws, Johnson drilled a much needed 3-pointer to get the Lady Statesmen within two, 71-69, with 17 seconds to play.
- With Lytle putting CBU up three, 72-69, with 5.7 seconds left, DSU had one last chance, but Jordan Lenoir's 3-pointer was no good.
- CBU ended the fourth quarter having outscored the Lady Statesmen 23-12.
TURNING POINT
- Christian Brothers outscored the Lady Statesmen 14-2 to start the fourth quarter.
STAT OF THE GAME
- Delta State committed 20 turnovers, eight in the fourth quarter, leading to 22 points for Christian Brothers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Rush, a senior from Horn Lake, scored 20 points to move past Pam Taylor, who scored 1,094 points from 1988-91, on the career scoring chart. Rush is currently 32nd with 1,109 points.
- Quantesha Patterson turned in her fourth double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
- Haywood, a senior from Mound Bayou, collected 11 first-half rebounds and finished with a game-high 15 while scoring six points.
- Delta State out-rebounded CBU 51-29.
- Jones led all scorers and CBU with 24 points while Lytle (16) and Lee (14) joined her in double figures.
- Saturday's loss was just the fifth to CBU and the first since a 53-50 setback at Canale Arena on Jan. 2, 2017.
