Eight Named To 2019-20 Delta State Athletics Hall of Fame Class

22889CLEVELAND, Miss. – One of the most decorated classes in the history of Delta State University is set for induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame, as DSU officially named its honorees on Monday, Nov. 4. Eight Statesmen and Lady Statesmen are featured in this year's class, including Jennifer Artichuk (Women's Swimming), Michael Eubanks (Football), Nicole Trotter Francis (Women's Basketball), Lardester Hicks-Green (Football), Mark Hudspeth (Football/Coaches HoF), Edwin Maysonet (Baseball), Dr. Clyde Muse (Men's Basketball), and Jeremy Richardson (Men's Basketball). Biographical sketches on the inductees are listed below.  
 
"This class represents the very best of Delta State University and the Department of Athletics," director of athletics Mike Kinnison said. "Induction in the Delta State Athletics Hall of Fame is the highest honor a student-athlete can receive, and this group of Statesmen and Lady Statesmen certainly deserve this recognition. We look forward to having them all back on campus this spring for their official induction."
 
The 2019-2020 Hall of Fame class will be inducted as part of Go Green Weekend on Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29. The Induction Banquet will be held on Friday, March 27 in the State Room of the H.L. Nowell Student Union beginning at 7 PM.

JENNIFER ARTICHUK (Women's Swimming & Diving)
A five-time NCAA All-American, Jennifer Artichuk was a four-year letter winner for the Lady Statesmen Swimming and Diving program from 2004-05 to 2007-08. The three-time New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference champion finished her career as Delta State's career points leader in NCAA championship competition with 70, including the highest finish ever by a Lady Statesmen, second in the 200-Butterfly at the 2005 Division II Championship.
 
The Ottawa, Ontario, Canada native, won the 2005 and 2007 NSISC championship in the 100-Butterfly while also taking home top honors in the 200-Butterfly in the 2005 season. During her four seasons at DSU, Artichuk turned in five top-8 finishes at the NCAA Division II Championships, including a second, third and fourth place podium finish.
 
A two-time team captain for the Lady Statesmen, Artichuk also excelled outside the pool. A 2008 national finalist for NCAA Woman of the Year, she captured the Charles S. Kerg Athlete of the Year award at Delta State her senior season and finished her time at DSU as a four-time All-NSISC and CSCAA Academic All-American.
 
MICHAEL EUBANKS (Football)
Unquestioned as one of the greatest pass rushers in the history of NCAA Division II football, Michael Eubanks was a three-time consensus All-American and two-time Harlon Hill Trophy national finalist for the Statesmen from 2004-2007. During his career, Eubanks, who led the Statesmen to the 2006 NCAA DII National Semifinals and the 2007 GSC title, established a new NCAA DII and Gulf South Conference record for sacks (45.0), and sacks in a playoff game with 5.0 versus Shaw University in 2007.
 
The Cleveland, Miss., native, a two-time GSC Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the All-GSC First Team in 2005, 2006, and 2007 while being selected to the GSC's Team of the Decade for the 2000's, earning the title of Defensive Player of the Decade.
 
Eubanks still holds DSU & GSC records for career sacks (45.0), sacks in a season (13.5), sacks in a game (5.0), tackles-for-loss in a career (70.5), and TFLs in a season (27.0). He ranks 10th on the DSU career tackles chart with 243 stops.
 
One of the most decorated players in Statesmen football history, Eubanks, a three-time AFCA All-American, finished third in final balloting for the Harlon Trophy, presented annually to NCAA Division II's player of the year, in 2007 after leading DSU to the GSC title and a quarterfinal finish in the DII playoffs.
 
Off the field, Eubanks was a standout in the classroom as well. The four-time GSC Academic Honor Roll recipient was awarded the prestigious Eddie Robinson Award, a $15,000 post-graduate scholarship, by the National Football Foundation after his senior season, a year that saw him finish in the top 10 for the Campbell Trophy, college football's academic Heisman trophy.      
 
NICOLE TROTTER FRANCIS (Women's Basketball)
Nicole Trotter-Francis played for Head Coach Lloyd Clark from 1997-2000. She helped the Lady Statesmen claim three Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Championships and two NCAA South Region titles and made two Elite 8 appearances. She ranks 24th on the Lady Statesmen career scoring list with 1,291 points. 
 
Trotter-Francis was named NCAA Division II Bulletin All-American in 2000 and earned All-Gulf South Conference laurels in 1999 and 2000. She was also named NCAA All-South Region and to the NCAA Division II South Region All-Tournament team in 2000.
 
Trotter-Francis, who is married to fellow Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Rodney Francis, topped off her Lady Statesmen career by winning the Charles S. Kerg Senior Student-Athlete Award, annually awarded to the DSU's top senior-student athletes. 
 
LARDESTER GREEN (Football)
Hicks-Green, a two-time AFCA All-American linebacker for the Statesmen from 2006-2009, wrapped up his career as the Gulf South Conference's all-time leading defender with 343 tackles, ranking 23rd in the history of NCAA DII football. During his four years at Delta State, Hicks-Green led the Statesmen to the 2006 NCAA DII National Semifinals, back-to-back GSC championships in 2007 and 2008, and three-straight postseason appearances (2006-2008).
 
The Chicago, Ill., native, capped his decorated career in 2009 with his fourth straight All-GSC First Team selection. Hicks-Green, the 2008 GSC Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the GSC All-Decade Team (2000-2009) and was a 2008 and 2009 Harlon Hill Trophy finalist.
 
Hicks-Green currently ranks second in GSC history with 343 tackles and continues to hold the Delta State record for career stops while ranking third in tackles-for-loss (51.5).
 
EDWIN MAYSONET (Baseball)
Edwin Maysonet was a shortstop and second baseman for the Statesmen baseball program from 2002-2003. Maysonet set single-season records with 25 doubles and eight triples in 2003, which still rank second in a single season at DSU. His 23 steals in 2003 rank eighth in a single-season and his 10 career triples are tied for fourth. Maysonet was named All-GSC in 2002 and 2003 and was an ABCA All-Region selection in 2003.
 
The Houston Astros drafted Maysonet in 19th round, where he went on to play 12 seasons in the minor leagues. Maysonet spent three seasons in Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros (2008, 2009) and the Milwaukee Brewers (2012).
 
In three MLB seasons, Maysonet hit .265 with three doubles, one triple, and two home runs. His second career home run was a grand slam on May 12, 2012, against the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving the Brewers a 6-1 lead.
 
Following his playing career, Maysonet spent three seasons coaching with the Brewers Affiliate, the Brevard County Manatees. 
 
DR. CLYDE MUSE (Men's Basketball)
Before embarking on a life-long and decorated career in higher education, Dr. Clyde Muse starred on the hardwood for the Statesmen from 1950-1952. During his time at DSU, Muse helped guide the Statesmen to 46 wins on the court and the 1950 NAIA South Region championship.
 
Ever a leader, Muse served as team captain his senior season and was a member of the "M" Club and Baptist Student Union. He also excelled off the court, holding memberships in Tri Beta, Phi Theta Kappa and was Vice President of the Student Government Association.
 
A past President of the Delta State National Alumni Association and Foundation Board of Directors, Muse was awarded an honorary doctorate from DSU in 2012 was named Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 1981.
 
Muse has served as President of Hinds Community College since 1978, growing the institution into one of the largest in the state of Mississippi. The development of the Rankin Campus of Hinds Community College is a testimony to his visionary leadership and to the firm resolve of a county committed to building a brighter future for its citizens. With a keen ability to build consensus, Dr. Muse led coalitions of elected officials, community leaders, and education partners past financial and political obstacles to create a comprehensive community college campus for the people of Rankin County.
  
JEREMY RICHARDSON (Men's Basketball)
Richardson, a standout 6-foot-6 shooting guard for coach Steve Rives from 2004-05 to 2005-06, scored 1,001 points while nailing 120 three-pointers in just 62 career games. 
 
The Baton Rouge, La., native, was named a unanimous First Team All-American by the National Basketball Coaches Association in 2005-06 after leading the Statesmen to the Gulf South Conference championship, NCAA DII South Region Tournament and a 30-2 overall record. Richardson averaged 17.8 points and 5.6 rebounds that year en route to being named All-GSC First Team and NCAA All-South Region.
 
Richardson, who averaged 15.8 points and 5.2 rebounds as a junior, led the Statesmen to a 19-12 record and a runner-up finish in the GSC title race and a First Team All-GSC recognition.
 
Richardson was selected with the ninth pick in the NBA D-League Draft by the Fort Wayne Flyers. After a standout season with the Flyers, the 6-foot-6 guard signed with the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. He would go on to play for the Hawks, Portland Trailblazers, San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic.
 
After playing in the NBA, Richardson enjoyed a decorated professional career playing in Europe.     
 
MARK HUDSPETH (Football/Coaches HoF)
Mark Hudspeth was a four-year letter winner for the Statesmen under Head Coach Don Skelton from 1988-1991. The Louisville, Miss., native was a starting safety as a junior before moving to starting quarterback in his final season.
 
Hudspeth was the Statesmen offensive coordinator under Head Coach Coach Steve Campbell for from 1999-2000. The Statesmen claimed the 2000 Gulf South Conference, NCAA South Region and NCAA Division Football Nation Championships during his tenure. 
 
Hudspeth's first head coaching stint came at his high school alma mater, Winston Academy, in 1996. He led the program to a 25-1 record in two seasons, including the 1997 Mississippi Private School Association Class A state title. Hudspeth went on to serve as Head Coach for the University of North Alabama (2002-2008) and at Louisiana at Lafayette (2011-2017) and is currently Austin Peay State University's Head Coach, taking over for the 2019. In 16 years as a head coach at the FBS, NCAA Division II, and high school levels, Hudspeth owns a 142-60 with him at the helm.
 
Hudspeth had tremendous success as head coach at North Alabama, leading the Lions to a 66-21 record in seven seasons (2002-08). During his time at the helm, UNA won two Gulf South Conference championships and competed in the Division II Playoffs five times.
 
Hudspeth spent seven seasons (2011-17) at the helm of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. In each of his first four seasons, the Ragin' Cajuns finished 9-4, with victories in the New Orleans Bowl in each of those seasons.
 
Hudspeth's assistant coaching stints include Navy offensive coordinator (2001), Mississippi State passing game coordinator (2009-10) and associate head coach and tight ends coach (2018).
