CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University women's tennis team dropped its season opener to Alcorn State University, 4-2, on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Cleveland Country Club.

Fabiola Cardenas defeated Biana Birkenstock 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Nathalia Stelzer smashed Sofia Ievleva at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles at No. 3, Sophie St. Amant and Katheryne Valencia defeated Veronika Pytlikova and Sofia Ievleva 6-0.

The Lady Statesmen open Gulf South Conference play on Friday, Feb. 15, as Delta State hosts Shorter University. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Cleveland Country Club.
