MONTEVALLO, Al. – Delta State University Softball was able to win their first Gulf South Conference series after a 2-1 victory over the University of Montevallo, on February 16, 2019. The Lady Statesmen were led by
Kelly Byrd and
Taylor Picou who each had a home run.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After impressive starts by both starting pitchers the game was scoreless through the first five innings.
- DSU was first on the board after Kelly Byrd's home run over left field giving them a 1-0 lead.
- Taylor Picou would extend the Lady Statesmen's lead 2-0 after her first home run of the season in the top of the seventh.
- Montevallo would plate their only run in the bottom of the seventh after a wild pitch.
ON THE MOUND:
- DSU's Nicole Fullilove (4-3) got the win for Delta State after giving up only one run off four hits through seven innings.
- Mychael McMillan (3-2) received the loss for Montevallo. She gave up two runs off four hits through seven innings.
NOTEABLES:
- Byrd hit her 4th home run of the season.
- Picou hit her 1st home run of the season.
- Byrd (2-3) was the only Lady Statesmen to have a multi-hit game.
- Fullilove with six strikeouts.

• The Lady Statesmen will be back on the diamond Saturday, February 23
rd for a double header against Union University. This will be Delta State's first home series of the season. Game one will begin at 2 pm with game two following shortly after.
