GULF SHORES, Ala. – Delta State University softball (4-1) wrapped up their time at the Gulf Shores Invitational with a 2-0 win over No. 5 Saint Leo on Sun., Feb. 3
rd at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
Starting pitcher
Nicole Fullilove led the Lady Statesmen to the shutout victory, scattering two hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings.
Jordan Jones and
Taylor Picou went 2-for-3 were to lead the Lady Statesmen.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both DSU and Saint Leo had strong performances in the circle. Saint Leo starter Sara Neuman held the Lady Statesmen scoreless through five while Nicole Fullilove was able to throw the complete game shutout.
- Saint Leo would threaten in the fifth inning when the Lions loaded the bases with one out. Fullilove coaxed a ground out and a strikeout to help the Lady Statesmen escape the jam.
- The Green and White plated the only run of the contest in the sixth inning. With bases loaded, Carlie Vice led off with a single and later reached home on a wild pitch to give DSU a 1-0 lead that it would not relinquish.
ON THE MOUND:
- Fullilove (2-1) tossed a complete game shutout only allowing two hits and striking out seven.
- Saint Leo's Sara Nueman (0-1) got the loss after giving up one run on five hits in fiving innings of work.
- Rachel Bean came in to relieve Nueman allowing one hit and walking three in two innings of work.
NOTEABLES:
- The Lady Statesmen outhit the Lions 6-2.
- Jordan Jones (2-for-3) and Taylor Picou (2-for-3) were the only two DSU players with multiple hits against the Lions.
- Fullilove (2-1) claimed her second win of the weekend in the circle.
