CLEVELAND, Miss. –
Quantesha Patterson's career-high 25 points and 13 rebounds powered the Delta State University women's basketball team to an 83-54 victory over Christian Brothers University on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Lady Statesmen (14-8, 9-6 GSC) outscored the Lady Bucs (9-11, 6-9 GSC) 46-16 in the paint and 19-5 on second-chance points en route to the win.
Nia Johnson (15) and
Frederica Haywood (14) joined Patterson in double figures. Haywood also had nine rebound while Johnson grabbed a career-best eight.
CBU's Brynne Lytle finished with 25 points, with 22 coming in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Statesmen jumped out to an early 10-3 lead, holding CBU scoreless for the opening 3:56 of the first quarter. Quantesha Patterson. Led DSU with six points.
- After building 13-4 lead with 3:01 to play in the first, the Lady Bucs cut it to four points, 13-9, with a quick two from Rachel Lee and a 3-pointer from Lauren Taylor.
- Patterson's layup, which gave her eight gave the Lady Statesmen a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- At the 4:40 media timeout of the second quarter, the Lady Statesmen maintained a six-point edge, 24-18. Patterson led all scorers with 13 points for DSU while Kenzie Jones had six points to lead CBU.
- Patterson's layup and free throw with 3:21 remaining in the half gave the junior 19 points, besting her previous career-high of 18 versus Alabama-Huntsville and Mississippi College.
- DSU ended the half on a 15-2 to take a 39-20 lead into the locker room at halftime. Patterson's career-high 24 points and nine rebounds led all Lady Statesmen. Jones paced the Lady Bucs with six points.
- CBU shot 17.6 percent in the first half, connecting on 6-of-34 shots, including 4-of-19 from 3-point range.
- DSU shot a blistering 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the floor and dominated scoring in the paint 26-4.
- Mirroring the start to the first half, the Lady Statesmen held the Lady Bucs scoreless for the first 4:42 of the third quarter while extending their lead to 25, 47-22.
- Lytle's layup with 2:11 remaining in the period was the first field goal of the third quarter for CBU. The basket cut the deficit to 29, 55-26.
- Jones' jumper at the buzzer at the end of the third cut the DSU lead to 59-31.
- At the 5:18 media timeout, CBU trailed the Lady Statesmen, 66-43, as the Lady Bucs had outscored DSU 12-7 to start the fourth period.
- The Lady Statesmen answered CBU's run with a 10-3 stretch to take a commanding 76-46 lead with 3:18 remaining in the contest.
- The two teams closed out the contest trading baskets, as the Lady Statesmen earned the 83-54 win.
- DSU shot 53.3 percent (32-of-60) for the game while holding CBU to 28.1 percent (18-of-64).

- The Lady Statesmen ended the first half on a 15-2 run to build a 19-point halftime lead, 39-20.

- Delta State dominated the paint, outscoring Christian Brothers 46-16, and controlling the rebounding edge 56-23.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Patterson, a junior from Maben, scored a career-high 25 points while clearing 13 rebounds. The former East Mississippi CC transfer was 10-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-7 at the line. It was her fourth double-double of the season.
- Rush, a senior from Horn Lake, connected on one 3-pointer to push her career total to 202, just four away from assistant coach and All-American Chelsey Rhodes (2002-2006/206).
- Due to injuries and foul trouble, CBU played the final 5:18 of the game with just four players on the court.
- Delta State scored a season-high 83 points, besting the previous high of 81 versus West Alabama (Nov. 29). The Lady Statesmen also cleared a season-high 56 rebounds in the win.
