HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Delta State University Softball was back on the diamond for a double header during day two of the UAH Charger Chillout on Saturday February 9
th, 2019. The Lady Statesmen played game one against West Liberty at 3:30 pm and game two against Trevecca Nazarene at 6:00 pm.
Delta State defeated West Liberty in game one by mercy rule with a score of 11-2. The Lady Statesmen were led by
Ta'mya Johnson and
Kelly Byrd who each had a pair of RBIs.
The Lady Statesmen fell to Trevecca Nazarene 8-7 in game two despite a late game comeback and a strong batting performance by Johnson, who had three RBIs off two hits in three at bats.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. West Liberty (GM1)
- DSU took an early 6-0 lead over West Liberty in the top of the first. The first run was driven in by Jordan Jones' RBI single to left field. Ta'mya Johnson drove in the next two runs after her single up the middle drove in Kelly Byrd and Jones. Johnson would score the fourth run after an error at first base. Taylor Picou plated the fifth run after her single to right drove in Carlie Vice. The final run by DSU of the inning was scored by Lofton as Picou stole second.
- West Liberty scored one run in the bottom of the first after Sydney Bennington's RBI double to right field.
- The Lady Statesmen extended their lead to 7-1 after Vice scored on a wild pitch.
- Delta State scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to lead 9-2 after Lofton and Mallory Myers scored on an error by the center fielder.
- Bennington would get her second RBI of the day for WLU after her single to left drove in a run cutting DSU's lead to 9-2.
- DSU would win 11-2 by mercy rule after Kelly Byrd's two run home run and a shutout bottom of the sixth.
ON THE MOUND vs. West Liberty (GM1)
- Mari Alex Sandridge (4-0) got the win for Delta State. She gave up two runs off nine hits and struck out three in six innings.
- WLU's Anna Paterson (0-1) received the loss after giving up seven runs off eight hits in three innings of work.
- Taylor Bonnett came in to relive Paterson. She gave up two runs off one hit in two innings.
- The Lady Hilltoppers' Tommi McConnell relived Bonnet, giving up two runs off two hits in one inning.
NOTEABLES (GM1)
- Johnson (2-3) and Vice (3-4) both had multi-hit games for the Delta State.
- Byrd and Johnson each had two RBIs a piece.
- Delta State out hit West Liberty 11-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Trevecca Nazarene (GM2)
- Trevecca Nazarene took an early 3-0 lead over Delta State after Mary Collins' RBI single to left field and Tana Whited's two run double to center field.
- DSU would cut the deficit to 3-2 after Lofton scored on a pass ball and Jones' RBI single.
- The Lady Trojans led Delta State 7-2 in the top of the sixth after scoring four runs. The first run of the inning was scored off Brooke Eakes' sacrifice bunt. Collins drove in the second run on an RBI single to first base. The final two runs of the inning were plated by a pair of RBI singles to left field by Whited and Megan Groves.
- The Lady Statesmen would make a comeback after scoring five runs to tie it up 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth. Gibson drove in the first of the five runs on a ground out to second base. The second DSU run of the inning was off an RBI single to right field by Byrd. Johnson would tie it up for the Green and White after her inside the park home run plated three.
- TNU was able to take the lead in the top of the seventh after MaKray Odom crossed the plate off a wild pitch. After holding DSU scoreless in the bottom of the seventh the Lady Trojans defeated DSU 8-7.
ON THE MOUND vs. Trevecca Nazarene (GM2)
- Raygn Hall (1-0) received he win for Trevecca Nazarene after giving up six runs off nine hits and striking out five through seven innings.
- DSU's Nicole Fullilove (3-2) received the loss. She gave up seven runs off fifteen hits in five and 2/3 innings.
- Brittany Taylor relived Fullilove giving up one run off two hits through one and a third innings.
NOTEABLES (GM2)
- Johnson had two hits in three plate appearances driving in three RBIs for DSU.

th, 2019 for a double header to complete their weekend at the UAH Charger Chillout. Game one for the Lady Statesmen will be against University of Missouri- St. Louis at 9 am. Game two of the double header will be against Bellarmine University at 11 am.
