CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State Softball completed their series against the University of West Florida with a double header on Sunday March 10, 2019. The Lady Statesmen defeated UWG 6-5 in game one while winning game two 2-0. This was the Lady Statesmen's first series sweep of the season.

How It Happened: Game 1

• DSU took an early 4-0 lead after a grand slam by Carlie Vice.
• The Lady wolves would cut DSU's lead 4-1 after Alley Taylor's RBI groundout.
• West Georgia scored another run in the top of the third after an RBI single by Lexie Stohr.
• UWG plated three more runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead 5-4. Two of the Lady Wolves' runs were scored by fielder's choices hit by Hannah Scarbrough and Madison Chambers. A third run was plated by a single to right center by Ashley Ellison.
• The Lady Statesmen walked it off in the bottom of the seventh. Jordan Jones' RBI single to right field tied the ball game 5-5. Kailyn Lofton would drive in the final run with a RBI single to left field.

 
On the Mound Game 1:

• Mari Alex Sandridge (5-3) started for DSU. Sandridge pitched 3 and 1/3 innings giving up five run off four hits.
• Brittany Taylor (1-0) received the win for DSU after throwing a scoreless three and 2/3 innings only allowing two hits.
• Raya Moncus (4-2) received the loss for UWG after giving up six runs off eleven hits through six and 2/3 innings of work.

 
Beyond the Box Score: GM1

• Vice's grand slam in the bottom of the first was her second home run of the 2019 season.
• Olivia Dick (2-2), Jordan Jones (2-3), and Kailyn Lofton (2-4) all had multiple hit games for DSU.
• Vice also had her second multiple RBI game of the season.

 
How It Happened: Game 2

• DSU took an early 1-0 lead after Kelly Byrd plated Mallory Myers with an RBI single to right center.
• The Lady Statesmen extended their lead 2-0 in the bottom of the third after Jordan Jones' RBI single plated Kelly Byrd.

 
 
On the Mound Game 2:

• Nicole Fullilove (7-6) received the win for the Lady Statesmen. Fullilove threw her second shutout of the weekend only giving up five hits while striking out six.
• Lindsye Jefferson (3-2) received the loss for UWG. Jefferson gave up two runs off five hits through two and 1/3 innings.
• Katie Foote came in to relieve Jefferson. Foote gave up three hits in three and 2/3 innings.

Beyond the Box Score: GM2

• Mallory Myers (2-3) and Kelly Byrd (2-3) both had multiple hit games for DSU.

• Delta State University Softball will be back at home Tuesday March 12, 2019 for a double header against Harding University. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1 pm with game two scheduled to start at 3 pm.
