MONTICELLO, Ar. – Delta State drop both games in double header against the University of Arkansas at Monticello on March 19
th, 2019. Despite an impressive performance by
Brittany Taylor, in her first start of the season, the Lady Statesmen lost game one 1-2. UAM took game two 8-4, but not before having to fight off the big bat of Ty'mya Johnson.

How It Happened: Game 1
- Kelly Byrd scored the only run for DSU in the first inning as Jordan Jones stole second.
- UAM tied the ball game 1-1 in the bottom of the third after Haley Cornell's RBI single to right field.
- Caroline Teddar's RBI fielder's choice gave the Cotton Blossoms a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
In the Circle: Game 1
- Brittany Taylor (1-1) got the start for the Lady Statesmen. Despite receiving the loss Taylor had a strong performance for her first start of the season. Taylor gave up only two runs off five hits through six innings.
- Kaylee Freeman (1-0) got the start for UAM. Freeman gave up one run off four hits in four innings of work.
- Abigail Leonards got the save for UAM after relieving Freeman in the top of the fifth.
How It Happened: Game 2
- The Cotton Blossoms were first on the board after plating three in the bottom of the second. The first two runs were plated by a throwing error, while the third was scored after a hit by pitch.
- UAM extended their lead 5-0 in the bottom of the third after scoring two. The two runs were plated after Allyson Stolte forced a fielder's choice.
- The Lady Statesmen finally got their bats going in the top of the fifth. DSU plated four runs off four hits. The first of the DSU runs was scored by Kailyn Lofton after a wild pitch. Mallory Myers drove in Mari Alex Sandridge with a single to right field. An RBI double by Ty'mya Johnson plated the final two runs for Delta State.
- An RBI single in the bottom of the fifth by Kaylie Pullin extended the Blossoms' lead 7-4.
- Faith Johnson RBI single to left center gave UAM a 8-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
In the Circle: Game 2
- Mari Alex Sandridge (6-4) started for DSU. Sandridge gave up three runs off three hits in one and 1/3 innings.
- Emily Baker relived Sandridge in the bottom of the second. Baker pitched three and 1/3 innings, during the time she gave up four runs off 6 hits,
- Brittany Taylor came into relive Baker. Taylor gave up one run off one hit through one and 1/3 innings.
- Hayley McGhee (7-2) started for the Cotton Blossoms. McGhee, she gave up two runs and walked one in three and 1/3 innings.
- Hannah Hudson relieved McGhee in the fourth inning. Hudson gave up three runs off two hits in 2/3 innings of work.
- Kaylee Freeman came into relive Hudson in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freeman got the save after holding off the Lady Statesmen comeback through the final three innings.
Beyond the Box Score:
- Johnson (2-3) and Sandridge (2-3) both had multi-hit performances in game two.
- Johnson was also the only Lady Statesmen to have a multiple RBI game.
Up Next:
• Delta State Softball will be back at University Field for a Gulf South Conference series against the University of West Florida. The Lady Statesmen will kick off the series with a double header Saturday March 23. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 2 pm.
