CLEVELAND, Miss – Delta State Softball completed their Gulf South Conference series against the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Sunday March 31, 2019. The Lady Statesmen took the high scoring game three 9-8 after
Taylor Picou's walk off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.

How It Happened:
- Lady Statesmen took an early 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Olivia Dick got DSU started after she crossed the plate thanks to a wild pitch. Jordan Jones plated the next two with a double to left field. Ta'mya Johnson plated two more with single to right field. Taylor Picou drove in the final two runs with a home run to left field.
- UAH cut the DSU lead 7-2 in the top of the fourth, thanks to a two run home run by Kiara Akles.
- The Chargers tied things up 7-7 after scoring five runs in the top of the fifth. A pair of two run singles by Akles and Amber Hammonds scored the first four runs. Hammonds scored the final run after an error at second.
- Delta State took an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the sixth after Kelly Byrd plated Mallory Myers with a groundout to second base.
- Akles' sacrifice fly for UAH, in the bottom of the second, tied the ball game 8-8.
- Picou homered in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Lady Statesmen the walk off victory.
In the Circle:
- Nicole Fullilove got the start for the Lady Statesmen. Fullilove pitched four and 2/3 innings giving up seven runs off six hits. Only one of the seven runs were earned.
- Mari Alex Sandridge (7-5) relived Fullilove in the top of the fifth. Sandridge received the win for DSU after pitching two and 1/3 innings.
- Kiara Akles started for the Chargers. Akles gave up five runs off two hits through two and 1/3 innings.
- Ava Jacobs relived Akles in the bottom of the third. Jacobs gave up one hit and one run, she did not record an out.
- Torie Garner came in to relieve Akles in the bottom of the third. Garner allowed one run off three hits in one and 2/3 innings.
- Sydnee Uhlman relieved Garner in the bottom the fifth. Uhlman pitched thorugh two innings, one run off one hit.
- Layton Murphy (8-5) received the loss after giving up the walk off home run to Picou.
Beyond the Box Score:
- Jones (2-4) and Picou (2-4) both had multi-hit games.
- Jones, Picou, and Johnson all had multiple RBI games.
- Picou and Myers both scored two runs apiece.
- Picou hit her fifth and sixth home runs of the season.

- Delta State Softball will hit the road for their next Gulf South Conference series. The Lady Statesmen will face Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Games one and two will be played on Saturday April 6th. First pitch will be thrown at 12 pm.
