Lady Statesmen Split Double Header Against Lee

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Delta State University Softball was on the road Saturday April 6th, 2019 for a double header against Lee University. Delta State took game one 12-3 thanks to three home runs. Lee University defeated Delta State 11-6 in game two.

How It Happened: Game 1
  • After Taylor De Adder's RBI ground out to second base the Lady Flames took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • DSU took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third thanks to a two-run home run by Kelly Byrd.
  • Lee got the lead back in the bottom of the third after plating a couple of runners. The first run was driven in by Adder's RBI single to left field. Abby Mckinzie plated the second run with an RBI double to center field.
  • After Kailyn Lofton's three run home run in the top of the fourth, the Lady Statesmen took a 5-3 lead.
  • DSU added to their lead in the top of the fifth. A sacrifice fly from Ta'mya Johnoson extended their lead 6-3.
  • The Lady Statesmen scored another six runs in the top of the sixth. After soring one run off an error, Mallory Meyrs drove in another with an RBI single. The next two runs were score by a pair of sacrifice flies by Jordaon Jones, and Byrd. The final two runs of the inning were plated by Johnson's two run home run.
In the Circle: Game 1
  • Nicole Fullilove (12-9) got the win for DSU. Fullilove gave up three runs off seven hits while striking out seven, in six innings of work.
  • Taylor De Adder (7-8) received the loss for Lee. Adder gave up ten runs off nine hits through five innings.
  • Stevie Baird relieved Adder. Baird gave up two runs off one hit through an inning.
 
Beyond the Box Score: Game 1
  • Olivia Dick (3-3) and Myers (2-4) both had multi-hit games.
  • Johnson, Lofton, and Byrd all had three RBIs and a home run.
 
How it Happened: Game 2
  • The Lady Statesmen took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Abi Gibson scored the first run thanks to Jordan Jones' RBI sacrifice bunt. Kelly Byrd scored the second run after an error.
  • After Lily Hatcher's RBI double the Flames trailed DSU 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
  • Lee took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the second after a two-run home run by Bailey Church.
  • DSU reclaimed the lead 6-3 in the top of the third. Jordan Jones drove in the first run with RBI single. Ta'mya Johnson plated the next tow with a double to center field. Kailyn Lofton's single to right field scored the final run of the inning.
  • Six runs in the bottom of the third gave Lee a 9-6 lead. Claudia Jones got the Flames started with a two-run home run to center field. An error at third base scored the third Lee run. Caroline Frieling's RBI walk plated the fourth run for the flames. A two-run double to center field by Taylor De Adder plated the final two runs of the inning.
  • Lee University scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The first run was plated by Stevie Baird's RBI single. The final run was plated after a hit by pitch.
In the Circle: Game 2
  • Mari Alex Sandridge started for Delta State. Sandridge gave up five rus off eight hits through two and 2/3 innings.
  • Brittany Taylor (1-3) relieved Sandridge in the bottom of the third. She gave up six runs off five hits through an inning. Taylor received the loss.
  • Emily Baker completed the game for DSU. Baker gave up no runs and only three hitsthrough two and 1/3 innings.
  • Shonna Penney (7-13) got the win for Lee. Penney gave up six runs off nine hits.
 
Beyond the Box Score:
  • Byrd (2-4) and Lofton (2-3) both had multi-hit games.
  • Jones and Johnson had multi-RBI games.
 
Up Next:
  • Delta State Softball will complete their series against Lee University on Sunday April 7th, 2019. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1 pm.
