HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Delta State University women's tennis team fell to No. 9 William Carey University 7-2 on Saturday, March 2 in Hattiesburg, Miss. William Carey is ranked ninth in the NAIA tennis rankings.
The Lady Statesmen are now 1-4 on the season, with two of their losses coming against NCAA Division I competition.
In the loss to WCU,
Fabiola Cardenas and
Nathalia Sato claimed DSU's lone win at No. 1 doubles with a 8-6 victory over Valeriya Shurbina and Sabrina Goetzen.
Cardenas also claimed the victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Xian Garcia in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
Delta State returns to action on Saturday, March 9, as the Lady Statesmen travel to The University of Alabama in Huntsville in a Gulf South Conference match. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
