MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Delta State University Basketball team grinded out a tough road win to upset the Christian Brothers University 61-58 n the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Tuesday evening. Brett Warner and Rasheide Bell led the way for the Statesmen with 18 and 11 points respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Neither team was able to get the ball in the bucket early. Rasheide Bell took advantage and scored the first four points of the game.
In the first nine minutes only one foul was committed.
Offense finally got going as Brett Warner and Matt Wilson hit back to back three's to take a 16-9 lead.
Around the eight-minute mark of the first half CBU started to get hot, as five Bucs hit six shots from beyond the arc.
In the second half, CBU started on a 7-2 run to take the lead 33-32 lead.
After trading buckets, both teams went tree minutes without a point.
With 4:22 left in the game, Luke Rudy for CBU hit a three pointer to grab a 46-45 lead.
Cedric Harper then answered with a bucket while being fouled. He hit the charity shot.
After CBU tied it up at 48-48 and then Bell scored five straight shots to seal the lead.
Brett Warner made three free throws to help maintain the lead.
TURNING POINT:
Bell's 5-0 run for the Statesmen with 2:30 to go in the game, gave the Green and White lead which they did not relinquish the rest of the way
STAT OF THE GAME:
CBU did not commit a foul for the first 16 minutes of the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
Warner moved into second all time with 195 three pointers made. He has tied Twentis Magee for second all time in Delta State history.
The Statesmen were 6-11 from behind the arc while CBU was 11-28.

The Statesmen advance to the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference tournament. They will take on Valdosta State on Saturday at 5 PM.
