Lady Statesmen Continue Home Stand Over Pig Pickin

CLEVELAND, Miss.- The Delta State University women's soccer team is scheduled to host two Arkansas Schools out of the Great American Conference this weekend. The Lady Statesmen are looking for their first victory of the season after tying the first two games and losing the third. On Thursday, the Lady Statesmen will take on Ouachita Baptist and then on Saturday, the Lady Statesmen will take on Harding University.

INSIDE THE SERIES: This will be the 12thtime DSU will play the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist. The last time they played was September 10, 2013. In that game, DSU lost 3-0. The Lady Statesmen are 2-9 all time against the Tigers and 1-6 at home. The two wins came in 2008 and 2011. Both of those were when OBU was still a part of the GSC.
 
Against Harding University, Delta State is 1-7-1 all time. The last time these two teams played was in 2012 and the game ended in a 0-0 draw in Searcy, Arkansas. The lone win for DSU came in 2008 when the Green and White won 3-2. This will be the fourth meeting at Delta Field for the two teams.
 
LAST TIME OUT:  Delta State tied its second of the season to Florida Tech 0-0. It was the second straight draw to start the season for DSU. Then in the second game of the GSC/SSC Classic, Florida Southern beat the Lady Statesmen 2-0. Anoucke Baas has the lone goal of the year for the Lady Statesmen. In goal, Amanda Hilliard has 14 saves.
 
 
INSIDE THE OPPONENTS: Ouachita Baptist comes into the game with a 2-2 record. They have defeated UT Tyler and Texas A&M International while losing to Northeastern State and Texas A&M Commerce. The Tigers are led by Ashlyn Heckman, who has scored four goals on nine shots. She has scored four of the five goals for the team this season.
 
Harding University comes into the contest at 1-4 on the year. The Lady Bison have defeated Wayne State in the opening game for their lone win. They have lost to MSU Moorehead, UT Tyler, and CBU. Melanie Spurgeon leads the way with one goal and an assist for Harding. Emma Welch and Amelia Lewis also have goals for HU. Goalkeeper Jessica Woessner has 17 saves on the season.
