Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.– The Delta State University Women's Soccer team opened the season with a 1-1 tie against the Missouri S&T Miners. Both teams had plenty of opportunities while battling the heat. It is the third straight season the Lady Statesmen have opened at home. The last two years have brought a loss and a victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delta State had an opportunity right out of the gate. Casey Lafontaine had a shot 30 seconds into the game but could not convert.
- After that, the Miners had a run of possessions and shots for the next section of the first half.
- The Lady Statesmen had several more opportunities with shots from Dee Okechukwu and Alexis Hobbs but neither team could score.
- At the half the scored was tied at 0-0.
- Missouri S&T struck first with a goal from Chayse Richardson in the 67th minute.
- DSU kept the pressure up with plenty of substitutions and shots in the last 25 minutes.
- In the 86th minute, Carra Hymel was fouled and Anoucke Baas converted the penalty kick to tie the game.
- Neither team was able to break the deadlock in the extra time periods and the game ended in a draw
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Amanda Hilliard got the start in goal and her sophomore season had pull down six saves.
- DSU out shot the Miners 13-12.
- Missouri S&T had six corners to DSU's one in the game.
- DSU was fouled 13 times while only committing eight fouls.
NOTABLES
- This is the first tie on opening day for the Lady Statesmen in their history.
- Luke Sheekey is now 2-1-1 on the first game of the year.
