Ewing’s 19 Points Pace Lady Statesmen Past UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla.Zyaire Ewing scored 19 points to lead the No. 16 Delta State University women's basketball (11-1, 4-1 GSC) team to a 62-44 win over the University of West Florida (4-11, 0-7 GSC) on Thursday at the UWF Fieldhouse.

Quantesha Patterson scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to record her ninth double-double of the season and the 15th of her career.

Ernesha Chatman added 11 points followed by Nia Johnson with nine points.

The Lady Statesmen halted a seven-game losing streak at UWF Fieldhouse dating back to a 52-41 win on Jan. 7, 2012.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trailing 7-6 in the first quarter with 6:39 left in the firster quarter, Delta State outscored UWF 9-5 to take a 15-12 lead into the second quarter.
  • T'Kyra Hicks scored eight points and Ewing had five points to help DSU outscore UWF 17-8 in the second quarter for a 32-20 lead at halftime.
  • Delta State opened the third quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 38-22 lead following a Ewing 3-point play.
  • Chatman dialed up a 3-pointer followed by a Patterson layup to give DSU a 43-28 lead with 2:45 to play in the third quarter.
  • Johnson had a 3-point play with 31 seconds left in the third to extend the DSU advantge to 49-33,.
  • UWF's Rachel McCree hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left to cut the DSU lead to 49-36 heading into the final quarter.
  • Patterson scored five of DSU's final eight points as the Lady Statesmen closed the game with an 8-1 run to claim the 62-44 win.

  • Delta State outscored UWF 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 32-20 lead into halftime. UWF did not get the deficit under 11 points in the second half.
