CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Chad Ragland went 5-for-7 with three RBI and
Cooper Brune tied a season-high with nine strikeouts to help lead the Delta State University baseball team (10-3, 4-2 GSC) to a doubleheader sweep of Christian Brothers University (2-11, 0-6 GSC) at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field on Saturday.
Ragland finished the doubleheader 5-for-7 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored and was 8-for-11 with four RBI for the series. The Jacksonville, Fla., native went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI in game one and was 2-for-3 with two RBI in game two.
Jackson Rutledge (2-2) tossed five shutout innings with four strikeouts and no walks to register the game one win.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
- Delta State scored two runs the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Chad Ragland singled and Hayden White doubled to start the inning. Ragland scored when Wolferding reached on an error and White scored on a Wyatt Pratt single to left field.
- Darek Sargent walked and scored on a Jared Cramer single through the middle in the second.
- Myles Christian belted a two-run home run to push the Statesmen's lead to 5-0 in the third.
- Delta State added six runs in the fourth to build an 11-0 lead. Jake Barlow belted a three-run home run with Wolferding and Wyatt Pratt aboard to make the score 8-0. Two runs came home on two wild pitches and a run scored on a White sacrifice-fly.
- Four runs crossed the plate to grow the lead to 15-1 in the fifth. Kevin Granger had a two-run double followed by a Darek Sargent sac-fly and a Ragland RBI double.
- Reed Roberts doubled and scored on a Devin Fox single to right center to make the score 16-0 in the sixth.
- Ben Brocato singled and scored on a JD Goodspeed sac-fly in the top of the seventh for CBU's lone run of game one.
ON THE MOUND | GM 1
- Rutledge (2-2) tossed five shutout innings with four strikeouts against no walks to register the win.
- Trey Jones had two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of work.
- Charlie Darnall struck out one while allowing one run on a hit in the seventh.
- Jonathan Baldelli (1-2) gave up nine runs on nine hits with a strikeout and four walks to take the loss for CBU.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
- Ragland singled and scored on a Wolferding double to stake the Statesmen to a 1-0 lead in the first.
- The Bucs put the tying run on second and third in the second inning only to see Brune strikeout Goodspeed to end the frame.
- Delta State increased the lead to 3-0 on a Ragland bases-loaded single with Barlow and Christian on the base paths.
- CBU loaded the bases in the fifth only as Brune struck out Keagan Voss and Cameron Kroeger to end the threat.
- Luke Wewers hit a solo home run to lead off the seventh and trim the DSU lead to 3-1. CBU had the tying runs at first and second with two outs but Tanner Propst coaxed a ground out to end the game.
ON THE MOUND | GM 2
- Brune tied his season-high with nine strikeouts while yielding one over six scoreless innings as the winning pitcher.
- Nick Myers gave up three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts as the pitcher of record for the Bucs.
NOTABLES:
- Reed Roberts' double in the sixth inning was his first career hit as a Statesmen.
