MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Delta State University women's basketball team scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back in a 72-56 victory in the final road game of the year over Auburn University Montgomery on Saturday afternoon.
Quantesha Patterson led the Lady Statesmen with a 20 point, 12 rebound double-double. Patterson went 8-for-12 from the field in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delta State scored on the first three possessions of the game to take a 6-0 lead and force a timeout from AUM.
- DSU's run was 12-0 over the first 5:45 of the game as they held AUM scoreless.
- AUM then responded with an 11-7 run to end the quarter as the Lady Statesmen led 19-11 after ten minutes.
- Caitlin Carter for AUM slowly started to chip away at the Lady Statesmen lead, scoring 11 of their first 19 points.
- Free throws from the Warhawks allowed them to cut the lead down to one, but an 8-2 run gave the Lady Statesmen a 37-30 lead at the half.
- DSU came out quickly in the third quarter with a 9-3 run to extend the lead out to 46-33.
- AUM's 9-2 run to cut the lead back down to eight points, but Nia Johnson answered with two buckets to push the lead to 54-42 at the end of the third quarter.
Quantesha Patterson then got a four-point play to extend the lead to 60-44 with eight minutes left.
- Johnson and T'kyra Hicks continued to score for the Lady Statesmen to keep the lead at 15.
TURNING POINT
- DSU scored the first 12 points of the game and did not allow AUM to score until the 4:15 mark of the first quarter.
STAT OF THE GAME
- The Lady Statesmen out-rebounded AUM 50-33 and DSU had 20 offensive rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- AUM was 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the second quarter.
- Patterson ended up with 20 points and 19 rebounds, including 10 offensive rebounds in the contest.
- Johnson had 16 points while Zyaire Ewing added 14.
- Hicks was the final Lady Statesmen in double figures with 10.
- DSU had five blocks while AUM had six.
