CLEVELAND, Miss. --
Quantesha Patterson and
Nia Johnson each had 20 points to help Delta State University advance past the University of West Georgia, 84-62, in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday at Walter-Sillers Coliseum.
Patterson also grabbed 17 rebounds for her 19th double-double of the season and her eighth in the last 10 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Statesmen took an early five-point lead into the 4:44 media timeout in the first period.
- UWG's Siera Carter deep three-pointer tied the game at 19-19 with 31 seconds left in the opening quarter.
- Nia Johnson's layup with six seconds on the clock gave DSU a 21-19 lead heading into the second quarter. Johnson posted 11 points for the Lady Statesmen in first quarter.
- The Wolves opened the second period with a three-pointer to take a 22-21 with 9:50 on the clock.
- Delta State respondeed with an 11-0 run to build a 34-26 with 1:21 remaining in the half and ultimately took a 38-31 lead into the half.
- Johnson led the Lady Statesmen in scoring with 13 points at the break. West Georgia's Taylor Brown led her team with eight.
- Delta State opened the second half with a 6-2 run to take an 11-point lead, 44-33, with 8:05 left in the third period.
- Another spurt, this one a 10-1 run, gave the Lady Statesmen a 21-point lead with 1:21 left in the third period and put the game out of reach for the Wolves.
- The Lady Statesmen held a 65-47 lead going into the fourth quarter, and used one final 11-0 run in the fourth to extend its lead to 26 points and put away West Georgia with 4:34 remaining in the game.
- Delta State came away with the 22-point victory to punch its ticket to the GSC semifinals.
TURNING POINT
- Defensively, the Lady Statesmen held West Georgia to two points over a span of 5:30 in the second quarter. They also used an 11-0 run to take command of the game to go along with their suffocating defense.
STAT OF THE GAME
- The Lady Statesmen shot a 61.1 percent from the field and 75 percent from beyond the arc in the third quarter to put away the Wolves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Patterson recorded her 19th double-double of the season, posting 20 points and 17 boards. She lead four Lady Statesmen in double figures.
- Patterson has recorded eight double-doubles in her last ten games.
- Johnson had 20 points for DSU, followed by Zyaire Ewing with 13 points and Shaniyah Buford with 12.
- Delta State had 36 points in paint and scored 18 points off 18 UWG turnovers.
- The Lady Statesmen made 15-of-18 free throws for a season-high 83.3 percent mark.
