Statesmen Welcome Andrej Markesic

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Delta State University men's soccer coach Andy Robertson announced the signing of Harris Stowe State transfer Andrej Markesic to the incoming Statesmen soccer recruiting class.

"Andrej is a tough tackling defender from Montenegro," said Robertson. "He will provide our team with great versatility, as he can really play anywhere on the back line."

The Podgorica, Montenegro native spent the 2019 season at Harris-Stowe State in St. Louis, Mo. and started 15 of 16 games for the Hornets. A freshman, Markesic earned American Midwest Conference (AMC) Honorable Mention All-Conference honors and finished the campaign with a team-leading six goals. A pair of those goals were game-winners for Harris-Stowe, and he recorded 21 shots on the year including nine on target for a .429 shots on goal percentage.

"Andrej was named captain at his previous institution in his first season, which gives you an idea of the impact he will make for us, " Robertson said. "He was looking to test himself in a more competitive conference and we are delighted that he will be joining us."
