Diamond Statesmen sign Southern Miss Transfer Josh Lewis

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Delta State University head baseball coach Rodney Batts has announced the signing of University of Southern Mississippi transfer Josh Lewis.

Lewis, a Theodore, Ala. native, spent the last two seasons pitching for the Golden Eagles, including making a pair of appearances on the mound in the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic-shortened season. Lewis worked 4.2 innings this past season and allowed a pair of runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts against Central Arkansas. Lewis also threw a third of an inning and allowed one hit against McNeese.

Lewis posted a 1-1 record in 2019 for USM. The 6-foot-1 lefty totaled 16 appearances, including two starts, and logged 29 innings on the bump. Lewis yielded 20 earned runs and struck out 21 batters against 11 walks.

Prior to arriving at USM, Lewis compiled a 9-2 record in 13 starts Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College under Batts in his sophomore season. Lewis posted a 2.48 ERA that year and struck out 76 in 80 innings. Lewis also made 10 starts in his debut collegiate season at MGCCC, going 3-5 with 44 strikeouts in 50.1 innings.
