Koetting Named @DeltaStateSB Assistant Coach

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University softball head coach Casey Bourgoyne-Charles has announced the hiring of Marissa Koetting as the new assistant softball coach on Monday, August 17, 2020.

"I am excited to announce the new hires to our staff," said Bourgoyne-Charles. "Assistant coach Marissa Koetting comes to us highly recommended. She has the right amount of experience and background that will allow her to jump in and coach our student-athletes effectively."

Koetting joins the #DSUFamily after serving as the head coach at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas this past season. Before arriving at Frank Phillips, Koetting spent one season at Goose Creek Memorial High School, where she coached a trio of First Team All-District players and doubled the school's regular season and district win totals. Koetting also managed the program's budget and oversaw youth camps and the fundraising efforts for the program.

Koetting's other stops include an assistant coach position at C.E. King High School in Houston and a graduate assistant position at NCAA Division I Houston Baptist University, where she helped establish a stat tracking system and coached two All-Southland Conference players while working with outfielders and hitters. The Ferris, Texas, native, also spent two years at the Bullet Baseball and Softball Academy, where she served as a manager and coach. While at the academy, Koetting helped 14 athletes earn scholarships to play at the collegiate level and led two travel teams to National Championships.

"Having recently been a head coach, I know Marissa can help manage all aspects of the daily operations and player development in our Lady Statesmen softball program," said Bourgoyne-Charles. "It is clear that she knows the game well, and our players are going to benefit from her knowledge and experience."

Koetting enjoyed a decorated playing career as a four-year starter at NCAA Division I McNeese State University. Koetting was part of a pair of Southland Conference Championship teams and was a two-time All-SLC selection. She also made the 2010 All-Tournament Team and was named to multiple SLC Commissioner's Honor Rolls for the Pokes.

Koetting owns a Bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in psychology, and also has a Master's degree in Christian Apologetics from Houston Baptist University. Koetting also founded "Reconcile Softball," a non-profit sports ministry for softball families across Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

Bourgoyne-Charles also announced another addition, adding Kallen Leeseberg to the staff as a graduate assistant. Leeseberg, a former pitcher at NCAA Division I Marist College, joins the Lady Statesmen softball program after a decorated four-year career for the Red Foxes. She was a three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team honoree and was part of the 2016 MAAC Conference Championship squad.

"We are also excited to announce our graduate assistant, Kallen Leeseberg," said Bourgoyne-Charles. "Kallen comes to us after pitching for Division 1 Marist in New York, but was born in Georgia and has ties all over."

Leeseberg was also a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Scholar-Athlete in 2017 and 2019.

"Kallen displayed a maturity through the interview process that really jumped out at us, and is going to be a great asset for our pitching staff as well as our other groups."
