Records Spotlight: Eyster Has Stronghold on @DeltaStateFB Record Book

CLEVELAND, Miss. - This fall, Delta State University Athletics will highlight some of the department's team and individual record holders in a continued effort to showcase the achievements of various student-athletes throughout Delta State's storied athletic history.

Our second feature zeroes in on Delta State football and former standout quarterback Scott Eyster, who remains the record holder in a plethora of passing categories for the Statesmen and for the Gulf South Conference.

A Hammond, La., native, Eyster did not miss a start in 47 career games for head coach Rick Rhoades from 2003 to 2006. Eyster amassed 13,889 passing yards and 14,342 total yards of offense, both of which still stand as Delta State and GSC records. He also owns the career-best marks for passing attempts (1,644) and total touchdowns (128) for the Statesmen and the conference as a whole. Eyster's 116 passing touchdowns also remain a school record and rank second all-time in the GSC.

Eyster also still holds the single-season record for passing touchdowns with 36, which he set in 2006 in helping lead the Green and White to a 12-3 record and a No. 3 finish in the final American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll that year.

The three-time All-American (2004, 2005, 2006) was also a four-time All-GSC selection and won the 2007 GSC Commissioner's Trophy as the conference's best overall student-athlete. Eyster was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Year twice (2005, 2006) and was also a two-time Harlon Hill Trophy national finalist.

Off the field, academically, Eyster was a three-time GSC All-Academic selection and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-Region honoree as a business and sport management major.

Eyster was a four-time C-Spire Conerly Trophy Finalist, and his efforts on the field and in the classroom helped him earn a spot on the GSC's Team of the Decade for 2000-2009.
