BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Delta State University men's basketball player
Jaylen Lemons was named the Gulf South Conference West division Freshman of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Lemons, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, averaged 19.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 6.0 three-point field goals in a pair of games against the 18th ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers.Â
The leading scorer for the Statesmen at 17.0 points per game this year, Lemons burst out for 26 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and eight made three-point field goals in the second game of the weekend. In game one, Lemons scored 12 points, dished out three assists, and added four more three-pointers.Â
To this point, the freshman point guard has helped lead a Statesmen offense that is second in the GSC in three-point shooting percentage at 37.5 percent, having gone 42-for-112 from beyond the three-point line.
Delta State returns to action in Memphis on Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23 as they travel north to play Christian Brothers University.
