HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team could take control in an evenly-played first half. The Statesmen and Tigers both registered three shots.
  • Mattis Kloepper made a crucial point-blank save in the 50th minute, denying West Alabama forward Aymane El Ammari from six yards away.
  • Delta State executed a counterattack to perfection in the 65th minute to catch the Tigers defense flat-footed. Johannsson placed a perfectly weighted pass towards Toulson at the edge of the six-yard box, and the captain coolly slotted a shot into the back of the net.
  • For the next 15 minutes, West Alabama created chance after chance, but the Statesmen stood strong and survived four shots and three corner kicks.
  • Joe Elliott received a yellow card in the 84th minute, the match's only booking.
  • Delta State shut down the Tigers in a furious final five minutes to finish off a hard-fought victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Despite even shot totals in the first half, West Alabama outshot Delta State 14-6, powered by an 11-6 advantage in the second half.
  • Both teams committed double-digit fouls as the Tigers edged the Statesmen 12-10 in that category.
  • Kloepper stood tall in the Green and White net, making four saves to secure his second clean sheet of the season.
  • Johannsson collected his first assist of the season, giving him three points in his last three matches.
  • The win marks Delta State's first over West Alabama in over nine years when they took down the Tigers 3-1 on Sept. 21, 2012.
