Lady Statesmen Earn 2-0 Road Victory Over West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Delta State University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals six minutes apart, and shut down the University of West Alabama late in the game to earn a 2-0 victory over the Tigers on Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

Rainey Niles notched her first goal of the season with an assist from Robyn Moody, while Lavinia Horning's header finished off a pass into the box from Jennifer Lopez.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team was able to get much going in the first half. The two teams combined for seven total shots, with Delta State taking four.
  • The first goal of the contest for the Lady Statesmen came on a breakaway, as Robyn Moody played a pass across the box to Niles, who drove the ball into the back of the net to give DSU the 1-0 lead in the 58th minute.
  • Roughly six minutes later, in the 64th minute, Lopez served a perfect ball into the box, and Horning's header zipped past the keeper and into the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage. 
  • Delta State shut out the Tigers in the final 25 minutes of the contest to keep them off the board and secure the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • DSU took eight shots to West Alabama's six.
  • Both teams had three saves, while DSU committed 15 fouls to UWA's nine. 
  • Moody and Lopez each earned their first assist of the season.

Delta State remains on the road and finishes the conference weekend with a matchup against the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. against the Chargers.
