Union Bests Delta State in Overtime Thriller

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University men's basketball team fell 85-79 in an overtime thriller on Monday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum, as the Union (Tenn.) University Bulldogs out-rebounded the Statesmen 21-7 on the offensive glass and outscored DSU 14-5 on second chance points.

Delta State trailed by six on multiple occasions inside of the game's final four minutes of regulation, but fought back to tie the game 66-66 with less than 10 seconds to play. The Statesmen had the ball and a shot at the win in regulation, but an Airen Brooks three-pointer just missed to send the game to overtime.

  • Union out-rebounded Delta State 43-35, including a 21-7 edge on the offensive glass.
  • The Statesmen shot 49 percent for the game and were 10-for-27 from three-point territory. 
  • The game was tied seven times and there were six lead changes, but Union (Tenn.) led for almost 29 minutes of the game. 
  • Kasey Walker-Gregg tallied a season-high 19 points, three rebounds, three assists, and no turnovers in 45 minutes played.
  • Bryson Hall had 11 points, a new season-high, and two rebounds on 4-for-5 shooting in 12 minutes of action.
  • Delta State turned the ball over 18 times to Union's 9, and the Bulldogs outscored the Statesmen 14-5 on second chance points.
  • The Statesmen fell to 2-1 in overtime games this season.
  • Delta State closed the 2021 portion of its conference schedule at 4-2 and in fourth place heading into 2022.
